Our Farm Equine Rescue Riders
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 19, 2016
A Home for Every Horse (AHFEH) with AIM Studios traveled to Salem, New York on September 8 and 9. We visited Our Farm Equine Rescue (OFER) to continue the series of rescue visits that highlight all of the hard work rescues are doing inside of the Equine industry. OFER focuses on changing the view of the unwanted horse and doing that through their extensive community event involvement.
While in New York, AHFEH representative Mariah Hammerschmidt was met by Purina’s Dr. Mary Beth Gordon Ph.D. and Jaime Brockett the local sales specialist to continue to build Purina’s relationship with rescues but also to work with OFER and AHFEH to build awareness on the unwanted horse. OFER understands that part of changing the view of the unwanted horse is making sure their horses are rehabilitated properly. And since a well-developed feed program is essential to their goal, Mary Beth and Jaime worked closely with the group to further build a quality feed program for the rescue.
One of the horses that AHFEH met during the visit was Harry; an Off-the-Track Thoroughbred who had a successful racing career, and continued into a second career almost immediately. Somewhere along Harry’s journey he found himself in desperate need of a new home, and that is when OFER stepped up. Harry struggled for many months at OFER both mentally and physically, but after almost a year of being with the group he is thriving and ready for adoption.
AHFEH plans on visiting rescues throughout the year to bring awareness to the work they do to help find forever homes for the over 170,000 unwanted horses. As recognition of the hard and compassionate work done by OFER, Purina helped OFER learn more about proper nutrition and work towards our goal of changing the view of the unwanted horse. Other sponsors of AHFEH presented the rescue with some horse-care gifts to take back to the rescue. Including: a Tractor Supply Company gift card, discounts on Electrobraid Fencing, a new WeatherBeeta blanket and twelve tubes of Zoetis Strongid paste. Each sponsor is key in assisting OFER with rescuing more horses and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for those horses still in the rescue.
